Nice little break down of Avatar.

The more you think about it, he has a point about James Cameron copping out and anthropomorphizing the aliens. How would it have turned out if the aliens looked like District 9 instead of sex kittens?

I really enjoyed this movie despite all the critics whining about the story. Made the mistake of seeing it in 2d the first time, in 3d its incredible. Saw it with my dad who after seeing my face said I probably felt like what did seeing star wars for the first time.

Yeah the story isnt a strong point but for gods sake why cant critics just enjoy a movie instead of looking for oscar bait?

Also found this pretty funny too: http://www.collegehumor.com/picture:1931082

Well, that's the thing. The movie was basically bred to be Oscar bait as far as I can tell. Expensive CD-I, typical love story, one big barrier dividing the protagonist from his love but overcome, etc.

I'd rather watch the Hangover for the fifth or sixth time. You guys ready to let the dogs out?

Always ready to let them dogs out. Agreed, it's not gonna get an oscar but probably an award for something involving the visuals.

An award for visuals and technical stuff, I have no problem with. My problem is if they give it an award for best picture/director, etc. The Golden Globes just gave it best picture I think, which in my opinion, is bullshit. Good movie, but wait ten years from now, when those visuals become the standard and this movie will simply be forgotten like Titanic. And whats the big deal with all the 3d, people are acting like its never been around before. Hell, I think I enjoyed Shrek 3d at universal studios a lot more.

"I always wondered why they were called roofies, 'cause you're more likely to end up on the floor than the roof. They should call 'em floories."

"Or rapies."

lol

Yeah I can definately see the level of visuals being standard within the decade. But for the moment they are still amazing. I really enjoyed the world they created more than the plot itself, and the CG helped in placing my mind on Pandora.

Well, Avatar was a great movie needless to say. I didn't get the chance to see it in 3D though but it was still good in 2D. Even though people wanted it to win in the Best Picture award, I knew the Hurt Locker would have won because it had more emotion or more realistic than Avatar. But still, Avatar was good, especially everything around the alien world that the movie was based upon.

I didn't enjoy this movie. The story was a total rehash of FernGully: The Last Rainforest, which wasn't very good to begin with.

Avatar was a great movie to watch for the first time, but when i purchased it on DVD and rewatched on flat screen and surround sound, it was boring. The movie lacked the rewatch value since the story was somewhat generic and bland. To be honest, it was like Pocahontas and star wars mixed in and a reference of "Yggdrasil" of norse myth. Visuals were stunning, but it was a high production film so of course its good. Soundtrack was also great, but once again, a high production film, so of course.
If your talking about 3D films, Appleseed Ex Machina did a better job on in my opinion. Of course it wont reach the ranks of Hayao Miyazaki's films or Clint Eastwood's fantastic films, or LOTR. But its a must watch for those who havent watched, and a recommendation. But dont bother rewatching it in my opinion.
